The Pride of Georgia Home to the Atlanta Falcons The Georgia Dome
The Georgia Dome, Peaches, Politics, Atlanta Falcons football, and Sweet Tea are many of the icons found in Georgia. Home to the Atlanta Falcons, the Georgia Dome has been a popular site for sporting events since its opening in 1992. It was the largest domed structure in the world for almost 8 years, and is still the largest cable supported dome in the world.
The teflon coated roof is supported by cables and only weighs an astonishing 68 lbs. despite the massive area that it covers. The foundation and structure of the facility contains over 110,000 cubic yards of concrete, and the roof is 395,000 sq ft.
The dome is also home to the the Sugar Bowl, Chic-Fil-a Peach Bowl, the SEC Championship Game and numerous other events. The interior can be arranged for basketball, WWE Wrestling matches, musical concerts, and the Drum Corps International competition, and has been the site for high school football championship games as well as general assembly gatherings for religious groups.
