Ralph Wilson Stadium Where the Buffalo Bills Play and the City Supports Their Beloved Team
Ralph Wilson Stadium. Where the Buffalo Bills have a whole city cheering them to victory, no matter what the weather may be. Home of true die-hard weather fans, along with Green Bay, the weather is not a factor when the ball is kicked off and the game is in full throttle. It just adds to the home field advantage.
The current stadium has been opened since the 1973, due to the original stadium being undersized and insufficient for NFL standards. So a new stadium was erected for the Bills, and has been home in the same location after 30+ years.
Buffalo was one of the first teams to use a corporate sponsor for their stadium. Known as Rich Stadium for a 25 year period, when the contract expired, it obtained its' current name of Ralph Wilson Stadium in honor of their owner and founder Ralph Wilson.
Seating capacity has shrunk with renovations to accommodate larger seats and luxury suites. The total capacity now is just over 73,000 a reduction from 80,000+ before 1998.
The stadium is also used for Drum Corps International championships and a musical concert when the occasion arises. The stadium was also the site for the NHL hockey game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Finally, the Buffalo Bills will be playing one home football game in Toronto at the Rogers Centre during the 2008 season.
