The Superdome Home of the New Orleans Saints and all of Cajun Country
The Superdome. Home of the New Orleans Saints and possibility the most well known dome in the world.
The Superdome was completed in 1975 and has been a New Orleans fixture ever since. The dome is very familiar fixture throughout the US as it has hosted numerous college and professional championship games outside of the Saints regular season. The facility has been revamped after Hurricane Katrina caused major damage and leakage to the roof and interior, causing the Saints to play every game of their 2005 NFL football season on the road, regardless if they were the home team.
The Superdome has hosted more Super Bowls than any other facility. It was home to Brett Favre throwing a touchdown pass on the second play of the game, as the Packers hoisted up the Super Bowl trophy and gained the glory of Titletown. It also was the site where Adam Vinettari kicking his game winning field goal as time expired that began several years of Patriot dominance in the NFL when the Pats defeated the heavily favored St. Louis Rams.
On the collegiate level, the Superdome is home to the BCS Sugar Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl, the Bayou Classic, the BCS National Championship Game, home football games for the Tulane Green Wave, and host of several NCAA Final Four basketball championships. Louisiana High School championship games are also held in New Orleans, as well as political conventions and religious gatherings.
