Weekly Predictions
Week 2

Alas, time to predict Week 2 of the NFL season now that Week 1 in officially in the books and we are somewhat clear as to what each team is made of.

There were some upsets, some last minute game winners in week 1, but overall, things were not too bad for predictions. The big news coming out of the NFL is the injuries. Of course, Tom Brady and the end of the season injury for him; Vince Young is living the NFL soap opera drama this week; the Saints are without three starters; and numerous injuries have already taken their toll. Welcome to the NFL.

Here are my Week 2 predictions.

Tennessee Titans vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Tennessee is living the soap opera with VY at the moment, but Kerry Collins was a solid replacement. The Bengals have their Mexican math and play-calling all mixed up. I like the Titans in this one. KC will be a solid replacement for a couple of weeks, and the defense will shut down Cincy... Titans 24 Bengals 17

Minnesota Vikings vs. Indianapolis Colts
Hmmmm, two losers last week, and two very disappointing performances on prime time TV. Colts D was lost with the Chi Town Bears, but are the Bears just that good? The Vikes were close, but no cigar in their rival's home field. The game is at the Metrodome, but I think Peyton has sharpened his passing over the past week. Colts in a close one 24-21.

Chicago Bears vs. Carolina Panthers
This is going to be one of the tougher predictions for this week. Chicago is on the road again, and the Panthers are a tough team at home. The Panthers won big in SD at the last second, and that was impressive. But Chicago was pretty frickin' tough to go into the Colts new home and kick some tail. This game will determine just how good the Bears are. And, I think they are pretty damn good. Bears 31 Panthers 17.

Altanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Bucs
Is Atlanta that good, or Detroit really that bad? I am a Lions fan, but I was embarrassed by how poorly the defense was to Atlanta. The Bucs have had some drama too, with Gruden pulling Jeff Garcia from the starting QB position. I have to give it to the Bucs here; home field advantage and a better defense than Detroit. But it will be close.... Bucs 21 Birds 17

New Orleans Saints vs. Washington Redskins
Well the Saints won the game against Ike, at least New Orleans isn't fighting this week's hurricane. The Deadskins err Redskins still haven't convinced me that an extra 3 days or preparation will make them a winner at home. Saints 27 Skins 13.

Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Bills were one of the surprises last week. They rolled over the Hawks and they were impressive. Now, they have to go to Jax and play in warm weather. Jax lost to Tennessee and nothing impressive stood out. Nothing impressive will stand out this week for the Jags either.... Bills 17 Jags 9.

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions
The Packers don't seem to miss Brett Favre anymore.... AR is the answer, and right now, management is looking pretty smart. Detroit is a mess. Their defense was rearranged completely this week, and the offensive couldn't get the right receiver corps in on a play. Kitna was older than the receivers coach... geezsh.... GB 28 Lions 17.

New York Giants vs.St. Louis Rams
Giants D looks great. and the only thing Ram tough are the Dodge trucks in the parking lot at Edward Jones Stadium. Giants 23 Rams 6.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks
YAAAAAWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! 49ers 13 Hawks 10

Miami Dolphins vs. Arizona Cardinals
Miami is improving, but if the game was in Miami, Lienart would still score more chicks than the Fins would score points. And the game is in the desert. Cards 17 Fins 13

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots
OK, this is one of those intriguing games of the week. Tom Brady is out, and Matt Cassel is in. Matt hasn't started a game since high school. And I think the Jets D will frustrate him, although he does have some weapons to work with. Brett is Brett, and he has the magic, and this week the home crowd, with him.... Jets 24 Pats 21.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans
The game has been moved to Monday night due to Hurricane Ike, but I don't think that the game will even be played. There are more important things in life than football, and Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast will be recovering from this natural catastrophe. If the game is played, the Texans will not have a clear head seeing all of the damage and troubles that surround them, and I can't blame them. I survived Hurricane Katrina, but I was shell-shocked at the damage done to my hometown. The Texans will be shell-shocked too if they have to suit up and play. Prediction: Game post-poned until further notice and rescheduled.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders
KC is at home, and they played good on the road. Oakland is fighting hard to be the Detroit Lions of the Pacific Time Zone. KC 24 Oakland 10

San Diego Chargers vs Denver Broncos
Broncos were hitting on all hoofs Monday night. Granted it was against Oakland, but a road win is the toughest win to get, and the Ponies were nothing less than spectatular. SD still is missing Coach Marti. My predictions for SD include the GM will get canned by the end of the year, and the Chargers will go down just like the GM will in a ball of flames. The Broncos will bring the lighter fluid after this game. Broncos 31, SD 13.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns
The Browns were close but no cigar last week against the Cowboys. The Steelers were smokin' more than cigars in their victory, and I don't see them cooling off soon. Steelers 35 Browns 17.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
A great game to watch; and it is only Week 2. My upset of the week, Eagles 28 'Boys 26. Blame Jessica.... again....

Well that is all for my Week 2 predictions. We'll see if my crystal ball is clear or cloudy....

And the beat goes on....

So, how accurate was I?

Week 2 predictions:

11-4 and I correctly predicted the postponement of the Houston Texans game prior to the NFL announcing it.

Not a bad start. Carolina surprised me the most in Week 2, as they are for real even without Steve Smith. Denver won a game they should not have, my Saints let me down, and Kansas City is in the same breathe as the Detroit Lions. Dallas and Philly were close like I predicted, but Dallas pulled it out.

Week 2 was fun to watch. And if this is any prediction of how the season is going to be, then we are in for a great year.
